Madeline Horan is taking on the role of Miss Havinsham in the 60 minute play IN HIS WORDS at The Bread and Roses Theatre in London.
Written by Heather Woodhouse and directed by T.J. Roderick, IN HIS WORDS is a meta-theatrical exploration of female perfectionism, OCD and the dangerous pull of the past. The play also features Heather Woodhouse, Megan Goldsman and Riya Rajeev.
IN HIS WORDS runs from Tuesday 4th to Saturday 8th August 2026 with Press Night on Wednesday 7th August, 7PM.
What if your ex wrote a play about you? Would you demand your own say? Or would you let them etch their side of the story into history forever?
When Esther gets the lead in a piece of new theatre, she is sure the play is about her... written by her ex. Despite her girlfriend’s objections, she insists that taking the role will bean exercise in autonomy and self-discovery. Obsession rears its head, however, and the rabbit warren of the past begins to twist and turn around them both.
When Esther gets the lead in a piece of new theatre, she is sure the play is about her, written by her ex. As she becomes increasingly obsessed with the play, spending less and less time in the present tense, she begins to lose what really matters to her: her current girlfriend, Isabella, and their life together. Isabella, meanwhile, struggles with body dysmorphia, finding solace in her new job supporting an eccentric elderly woman who talks continuously of a mysterious cave by the sea. Reality begins to slip from their grasps as the play launches into absurd action – a bizarre entanglement of Esther’s memories, hopes and dreams.
IN HIS WORDS is a production of Woodhouse&Roderic, a growing theatre company focusing on bridging the gap between working-class, queer and young black creatives in London.
The play will speak particularly to young, queer, female-identifying people and those with OCD or any neurodivergence.
